Agadir Al Massira Airport (AGA) is the gateway to Morocco's most popular beach resort. It is a manageable, mid-sized airport, but arrivals can feel chaotic during peak charter season (June to September). Here is what to expect and how to get to your hotel without overpaying.
— The Airport —
Agadir Al Massira Airport has one main terminal with two levels — arrivals on the ground floor, departures above. After passport control and baggage claim, you exit through a single arrivals door into an outdoor forecourt.
In the arrivals forecourt you will find:
- Official taxi ranks (grand taxis and petit taxis)
- Car hire desks just inside the terminal
- A small café and ATM
- Drivers holding name signs for pre-booked transfers
Pre-booked drivers meet you at the barrier just outside the arrivals door. Look for your name on a sign — it will be there.
— Distance from Airport to Agadir City and Beach —
Agadir beach and city centre are approximately 25 km from the airport. The journey takes:
- 25 to 35 minutes in normal traffic
- 35 to 50 minutes during summer peak hours or when multiple charter flights land simultaneously
Taghazout surf village (popular with surfers and boutique resort guests) is about 35 km north, adding 10 to 15 minutes to the journey.
Essaouira is 175 km north of Agadir — a 2-hour drive on the coastal road, one of the most scenic in Morocco.

Agadir petit taxis are red and metered, but drivers at the airport frequently refuse to run the meter for arriving tourists. Expect to be quoted 200–350 MAD for what should be a 120–160 MAD metered ride to the main tourist zone.
Grand taxis (larger, shared vehicles) operate on fixed routes and are cheaper but shared — not ideal after a long charter flight with luggage.

Most UK and European visitors arrive on charter flights. These often land in clusters — four or five flights within the same two-hour window. During these windows, the taxi rank turns chaotic and wait times for an available taxi can reach 30 to 45 minutes.
If you are on a charter, pre-booking your transfer is even more important. Your driver is there specifically for you, regardless of how many other flights have just landed.
— Your Hotel May Be Further Than You Think —
Agadir has a long tourist strip stretching from the city beach north towards Taghazout. A hotel at the northern end of the strip (near the marina or Founty area) is significantly further than one near the centre. A hotel in Taghazout is an entirely different destination.
Always give your driver the exact hotel name and, if possible, a Google Maps pin. This avoids confusion and ensures you are quoted the right price.

For departures, Agadir Airport is straightforward. Allow 1.5 hours before your flight if flying to Europe, 1 hour for domestic. Add your transfer time on top. In summer, add a further 15 minutes for increased security queues.
